The 2025 KCSE Results are out! Here’s a complete, up-to-date analysis of the KCSE 2025 results released today, January 9, 2026, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba at AIC Chebisaas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
This marks one of the final major cohorts under the 8-4-4 system as Kenya fully transitions to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Overall, performance showed positive improvement, with more candidates qualifying for university and a rise in top grades.
Key Statistics: 2025 KCSE at a Glance
A record 993,226 candidates sat the exams — up 3.2% (about 30,714 more) from 962,512 in 2024. Gender balance improved:
- Female: 501,214 (50.46%)
- Male: 492,012 (49.54%)
This is the second consecutive year female candidates outnumbered males — a milestone for gender equity in Kenyan education!
Top highlights:
- 1,932 candidates (0.19%) scored straight A (plain) — up from 1,693 (0.18%) in 2024.
- 270,715 candidates (≈27.18%) achieved C+ and above — qualifying for direct university entry via KUCCPS (improved from 246,391 or 25.53% in 2024, a +1.6 percentage point gain).
- 507,131 candidates (50.92%) scored C- and above (up from 49.41%).
- 634,082 candidates (63.67%) attained D+ and above (pass rate, better than 62.76% last year).
- Concerning: Over 357,000 candidates scored D plain and below (including many D- and E), pointing to persistent challenges in equity and foundational skills.
National schools dominated top performance, producing 1,526 of the A plains, followed by Extra-County (197) and Private schools (185). Sub-County/day schools showed strong gains, with ~72,699 achieving C+ and above — outperforming County schools.

- A (plain): 1,932
- A-: ~9,000+ (estimated from trends)
- B+ to B-: Strong mid-upper band
- C+ to C-: University/mid-range qualifiers
- Lower grades: Significant numbers in D and E categories
(1,180 results cancelled due to irregularities — a decrease, showing better exam integrity.)

The reviewed grading system (since 2023) — emphasizing Maths, best language, and the best 5 other subjects — helped drive the upward trend by focusing on learner strengths.
