KCSE 2025 Results Analysis: Insights, Top Schools, and University Admission Guide

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2025 results were officially announced on January 9, 2026, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba. Nearly one million students nationwide received their exam outcomes, marking a pivotal moment for students, parents, and educators alike. At Elimuhub Education Consultants, we’ve carefully analyzed the data to help you understand the performance trends and guide you through the next steps in academic placement and career planning.

The 2025 KCSE cycle shows promising growth and shifts in educational achievement:

  • Top Achievers (Grade A Plain): 1,932 candidates attained straight A’s, an increase from 1,693 last year.
  • University Admission Eligibility: 270,715 candidates (27.18%) scored a mean grade of C+ or higher, qualifying for direct university admission.
  • Grade C- and Above: Over half of the students, 507,131 (50.92%), achieved this threshold.
  • Pass Grade (D+ and Above): 634,082 candidates (63.67%) passed, opening doors to TVET and diploma courses.

2. Institutional Performance: Schools Leading the Way

While official school rankings are no longer published, our analysis reveals top performers for 2025:

  • National Schools: Produced the highest number of A-grade candidates, with Moi High School Kabarak leading at 82 As, followed by Kagumo High (75 As) and Alliance High School.
  • Sub-County Schools: Notably excelled in university placements, producing over 72,000 candidates with C+ or above, outperforming county schools in this category.
  • Regional Stars: Schools like Friends School Kamusinga and Pangani Girls continued their tradition of strong academic results.

This trend highlights the increasing competitiveness of Sub-County schools, signaling that quality education is spreading beyond traditional national school strongholds.

3. Subject Performance & Grading System Insights

  • Best Subject: Mathematics emerged as the top-performing subject nationally in 2025, reflecting strengthened STEM focus.
  • Gender Trends: Female students outperformed males in 6 subjects, including English, Kiswahili, and CRE, while male candidates scored higher in 11 subjects such as Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and History.
  • Grading System: The revised grading framework (in use since 2023) emphasizes performance in Mathematics, one language, and the best five other subjects to calculate the mean grade.

4. Integrity & Access to Results

  • Malpractice Cases: 1,180 candidates had their results canceled due to examination irregularities—a 40% increase from 2024, highlighting the need for continued vigilance.
